Scout AR Gets Another First |

As a terrific tuneup race for the BULL of Africa next month, team Feed The Machine headed out to the very familiar Santa Monica mountains to take on California's best teams in another segment of the Scout Adventure Race. Created to support the Boy Scouts of America by divirting all proceeds to their causes, Team FTM raced hard and fast to take the crown. Last year the team was bested by just one team and it was on their minds this year as they raced for the top spot. It was another excellent course with a few curveballs thrown in but in the end the team prevailed. The team consisted of Christian Burke, Tessa Roorda of Brasil, Sean Clancy of Team DART-Nuun and Jeff Vicario. What a great way to mentally prepare for perhaps the toughest challenge yet to face the team in South Africa next month. |

Poison Oak was the theme of the weekend as Evan and Christian invited Lori Koivisto to join them for a romping through the Santa Margarita mountains. One of the most beautifully designed course they had ever seen also brought its poison oak out in record numbers as the team found themselves bashing through the stuff with their full bodies. It's going to be a tough few weeks after this race. But the team was bested only by the world ranked Team Sole who blistered the course with a mountain of experience. Thanks to all who helped get the team there and kudos to Lori for giving it her best. |

As a tuneup race for the Endorphin Fix in West Virginia, Christian, Evan and Dennis teamed up with the famed Karen Lundgren of Team Sole to take the Big Blue Adventure Race at Castaic Lake. The powerhouse team worked hard and efficiently as temperatures soared. This well designed course challenged many teams from the California area but only one team came out on top. Another one in the bag for the 2008/2009 season. Congratulations Team Feed The Machine! |

Team FTM wins the Endorphin Fix |

The gang showed its true colors as they battled through real adversity, overcoming a destroyed bike on the longest bike section, tackling sleep demons and besting a stacked field as they crossed the finish line in first place. This race is touted as the toughest three-day race in America and it did not disappoint. The course was gratuitously steep and rugged but the team persevered with a big and very important win stamping Team Feed The Machine as one of the top teams to beat in the US. |

Team FTM Starts the Season with a 1st at Vail Lake |
|
Tuesday, 26 February 2008 |
|
The season got under way with a top notch effort from team Feed The Machine. All cylinders were firing as they tore up the course and showed everyone why they are a force to be reckoned with in the 2008 Adventure Racing season. With Evan in his Roclite 285s and Sylvie, Christian and Cyril in their 345GTXs, Team Feed The Machine tore up the 8 hour Desert Rage Temecula Adventure Racing course in Vail Lake. A new twist to the AR format, teams complete in three rogaine formatted stages racing to a timed finish. The lowest overall time to complete the course or as much of it as possible would declare the winner. FTM finished a close second in the Bike section, a second in the Kayak section, then blistered the course on the Trail Run section besting the next closest by several minutes to take the overall course by 11 minutes over the 2nd place team. We like to think the Trail Run success was due to Inov-8 shoes, but I'm hoping that the long hours training in the mountains over the last several months had a little to do with it. Either way, it was a great start to the 2008 racing season.
